The Bombardier Global Express entered service in late 2005 and is the flagship of the Bombardier fleet with ultra long range capabilities and high performance. The XRS shows significant improvements over its predecessor, the Global Express, with an increased range of 6,150nm (11,400km) and a cruising speed of M0.85 - the original target for the Global Express. The increased range is made possible by an additional 674kg (1,486lb)-capacity forward fuel tank in the wing/body fairing.

Pressurization has been increased to reduce cabin altitude to 4,500ft at up to 45,000ft, while other cabin improvements include a relocated crew rest area, two additional windows, LED lighting and larger baggage area. Other improvements include a faster refueling system and improved zero-flaps take off capability for hot and high airports.
Powered by two Rolls-Royce BR710 turbofans, the Global Express XRS features Honeywell's Primus 2000XP avionics system to be replaced by Rockwell Collins' Pro Line Fusion avionics suite in 2011, making its debut on the Bombardier Global family.
Two Inmarsat Aero H+ channels and an Iridium based channel means high-speed data satellite communications is standard for both the cockpit and the passengers, while plug and play servers with a built-in aircraft firewall allows the Rockwell Collins exchange system to provide internet and email coverage as well as live TV images through the Tailwind 500 system.
Global Express XRS flying at altitudes of up to 51,000 ft (15,545 m), this high performance aircraft has exceptional range, carrying eight passengers and a crew of four 5,450 nautical miles nonstop at Mach 0.87 and 6,150 nautical miles nonstop at Mach 0.85. The cockpit inside the XRS is outfitted with the Honewell Primus 2000xp avionics suite. It includes Bombardier’s 2 nd Generation Enhanced Vision System (BEVS), Head-Up flight display system and Central Aircraft Maintenance System (CAIMS).
